FLORENCE, Ky. – Eduardo Zurita and Jeremy de Hoog of the University of Rio Grande have been named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the Week.
Zurita was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while de Hoog earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Conference officials made the announcement late Monday night.
Zurita, a freshman midfielder from Barcelona, Spain, scored in the 75th and 81st minutes to break a 1-1 tie and turn it into a 3-1 win for No. 1-ranked Rio Grande over No. 6 Lindsey Wilson in what was the NAIA and KIAC Game of the Week.
Zurita has started nine games and has four goals and eight points on the year.
de Hoog, a junior midfielder from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, helped limit the NAIA’s leading scorer, LWC’s Aleksi Pahkasalo, to just three shots, none of which were on goal. He also assisted on both of Zurita’s goals.
de Hoog also had an assist in a 4-0 shutout of Mt. Vernon Nazarene earlier in the week. He has started nine games this year and has six assists.
The RedStorm, who improved to 10-0 with the two wins, returns to action on Thursday at home versus Ohio Christian at 7 p.m.
Randy Payton is the Sports Information Director at the University of Rio Grande.
