HEMLOCK, Ohio — A great end to a great week.
The South Gallia volleyball team claimed a 3-1 victory over Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host Miller, Thursday night, giving the Lady Rebels a 3-0 record for the week.
South Gallia (7-6, 3-5 TVC Hocking) claimed the opening game by a 25-9 count and followed it up with a hard-fought 25-22 victory in the second game. Miller rallied to win the third game by a 25-18 margin, but the Lady Rebels sealed the 3-1 win with a 25-12 triumph in the fourth game.
Courtney Haner led the Lady Rebels with 17 service points and two aces, followed by Mariah Hineman with 11 points and three aces. Kirstin Burnette marked 10 points and one ace, Jayla Wolford added eight points and two aces, while Erin Evans had six points and two aces. Rounding out the SGHS service attack were Hannah Shafer and Caitlyn Vanscoy with four points and one point respectively.
Wolford led the Red and Gold at the net with 11 kills, followed by Haner with eight and Hineman with seven. Vanscoy and Taylor Burnette each marked three kills, while Evans finished with two. Haner led the SGHS defense with four digs, Vanscoy and Taylor Burnette each added three, while Evans and Kirstin Burnette both finished with two. Vanscoy posted the lone SGHS block, while Wolford and Evans each had one assist.
The Lady Rebels will look to sweep Miller on October 15, when the Lady Falcons visit Mercerville. South Gallia returns to action on Monday when the Lady Rebels try to avenge an early season loss to Southern, in Racine.
