MIDWAY, Ky. — The University of Rio Grande volleyball team notched its first Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season on Tuesday night, cruising to a 25-20, 25-11, 25-15 triumph over Midway University at Marshall Gymnasium.
The RedStorm improved to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the KIAC with the victory, while the Eagles dropped to 2-12 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Rio Grande rolled up an impressive .301 hitting percentage in the contest, tallying 43 kills against just 15 errors in 93 attacks. The RedStorm also finished with nine service aces.
Sophomore Aleah Pelphrey (Piketon, OH) led URG with 12 kills, while junior Autumn Snider had 10 kills and junior Kayla Briley (Marion, OH) had a match-high 35 assists and 15 digs.
Junior Chandler Brown (Stockdale, OH) added 11 digs in the winning effort, while freshman Brooke Bostelman (Kenton, OH) had a team-high three aces. Briley, Brown and sophomore Kylan Straughsbaugh (Kingston, OH).
