Riverside hosts Capehart league

MASON, W.Va. — The weather may have turned much cooler for the third round of the Frank Capehart Tri-County Junior Golf League played at the Riverside Golf Course, but the competition for the individual point races warmed up considerably.

After three rounds, there is only one race that has been finalized as 46 individual competitors completed their rounds on Monday in Mason County.

Taylor Boggs in the 18-19 year old ladies division clinched this title by winning her third straight tournament with a score of 48. Taylor played most of her round from the white tees, not the red ladies tees.

The boys section of this age group is still up for grabs among three young men. Hayden James is still the leader even though he was not able to participate in Monday’s event.

Hayden has accumulated 20 points. Nathan Redman won today’s round with a fine score of 39, giving him 18 points for the season. Curtis Haner finished second today and his point total is now 14.

The highly-competitive 15-17 year old age group had 14 young men and three young ladies playing in their division.

Jonah Hoback played very well shooting an excellent 37 for his round. This victory gave him 10 points and he now has a total of 18 points for the year.

Second place today went to Jensen Anderson with his score of 40. This gave Jensen eight points bringing his total to 22 for the year placing him second in the points race.

Third place today was a tie between Levi Chapman and Ryan Harbour with identical scores of 43. Levi and Ryan split the total combined points between third and fourth place or a total of five each. Levi now leads this group with 25 points.

Bryce Swatzel finished fifth today with a score of 46. Wyatt Nicholson finished sixth today with a 47 giving him 12 points for the year.

Whitley Byrd shot a 47 to give him seventh place today and a grand total of eight points for the season. It should be noted that Whitley’s fourth place finish last week at the Meigs County Golf Course and was inadvertently omitted from the story in last week’ s newspaper.

Logan Colburn, Caleb Stanley, Colton Fridley and Carl Sayre also turned in scores for today along with Anthony Ortiz, Gus Kennedy and Theo McElroy.

The girls section of this group only had two players today. Kylee Tolliver won with her score of 53 winning her 10 points and she now has a total of 20 for the year.

However, Kaitlyn Hawk won eight points today for second place and eight points. This gives Kaitlyn a grand total of 24 points making her the current leader at this time. Also, not out of the race is Sarah Bunce who did not play today. But, her total accumulated point total is 16 meaning she is still in the picture.

Six young men participated in today’s tournament for the 13-14 year old age group which ended in a tie for first place between Jay Sayre and Matthew Morris. Jay and Matthew split the points earned for the two top places giving each nine points for the day.

Matthew now has a total of 19 points while Jay has 13 for the season. First place, however, belongs to Trenton Peacock who finished third today earning six points. His accumulated total is now 20 giving him a first place tie with TJ Vogt for the moment. Zack King was fourth today while Casey Greer was fifth and Evan Grady was sixth.

Mattie Ohlinger was the only lady to play today in this group. Her winning score of 56 gave her 10 points and her accumulated total is now 20. Caitlin Cotterill is in second place with her total points being 18.

The 11-12 year old age group is another competitive bunch. Conner Ingles won the 10 points for first place with his score of 50. He now has 29 points for the season.

Landon McGee was second today with his score of 54 earning him eight points and an accumulated total of 23. Joe Milhoan finished third with his score of 61. Joe has now a grand total of 12 points.

Kaden McCutcheon was fourth today with his 63. Caleb Pierson was next with his score of 65. Brennen Sang turned in a score of 66 with Ethan Roberts posting a 69.

There were not any ladies playing in this group.

Nine boys and four girls played in the 10 and under age group. Grant Roush scored a 40 for his nine holes earning him 10 points. He has now a total of 20 points.

Mason Morris and Elijah Grady both shot a 45 for second place and split 14 points equally. Mason now has 17 points while Elijah has 14. Noah Leachmen was fourth today with his score of 46 earning him four points to bring his total to 10 for the season.

Riley Cotterill was fifth today and has accumulated 13 points for the year. Alec Conway and Jesse Jordan, Jr. tied for sixth today posting scores of 56 each. Bronson Shepard was next and has now accumulated 10 points. Ben Supple also posted a score in this group.

The top two places in this division remains a very close race. Marlo Norris won today with her score of 47. She also earned herself 10 points to bring her total to 28 for the season.

Alli Norris is close behind with her point total being 25 for the year. Alli was second today with her score of 56 giving her eight points. Bailey Smith was third today posting a score of 64. Bailey has accumulated 13 points for the season. Teagan Conway shot 67 today for four additional points and a total of 10 for the year.

The fourth tournament in this year’s tour will take place at the Cliffside Golf Course in Gallipolis, Ohio. Please note that the date will be Wednesday, July 5. Play is open to all area youth 19 years old and younger. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with play starting at 9 a.m.
