GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — A tough way to go out.
The Warren golf team picked up a six-stroke victory during the final Southeastern Ohio Athletic League golf match to ever be played at Cliffside Golf Course Tuesday night in Gallia County.
The Warriors collectively shot a 163, which was six shots ahead of runner-up Logan (169). Host Gallia Academy finished third with a 173, while Jackson ended the match with a 185.
Sophomore Taae Hamid led the Blue Devils with a 37. Marcus Moore followed with a 40, while Dares Hamid and Kaden Thomas each fired a 48. Miles Cornwell and Zach Graham contributed to Gallia Academy’s efforts with a 50 and a 54, respectively.
Scores for Warren include Max Hadney (37), Kyle Dennis (41), Nick Ward (42), Josh Jankauskas (43) Turner Schilling (44) and Benjamin Carlsen (50).
Scores for Logan include Jake Barstow (40), Hunter Fizer (42), Paul Duffy (42), Kevin Boals (45), Jared Walker (53) and Parker Keynes (53).
Scores for Jackson include Jared Lemaster (43), Ricky Fraley (44), Evan Coyan (48), John Bachtel (50), Derek Murray (54) and Ethan Mercer (57).
The Warriors — who have won three of the four conference matches this fall — are now 10-2 overall in the season standings, one game ahead of the two-time defending champion Chieftains (9-3).
Gallia Academy (5-7) and Jackson (0-12) are both out of league title contention.
Max Hapney of Warren and Taee Hamid of Gallipolis shared medalist honors with identical rounds of 37.
The Blue Devils will host their final regular season home match on Thursday at Cliffside Golf Course against Chesapeake and Ironton. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Gallia Academy becomes a full-time member of the Ohio Valley Conference in the fall of 2016.
The final SEOAL golf match of the year will be held Tuesday at Hocking Hills Golf Club in Hocking County, with Logan serving as the host.
