Oliver, Pullins named MVPs; RVHS earns 3 choices

After claiming the program’s first league title since 2011, Meigs also dominated the postseason honors after earning a league-best seven selections on the 2017 All-Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division softball teams — as voted on by the coaches within the division.

The Lady Marauders (12-0) — who picked up the program’s 15th overall league championship — set a school record for wins in a season with 21. MHS also came away with two of the three special postseason awards handed out within the TVC Ohio.

Seniors Devyn Oliver and Alliyah Pullins — a pair of repeat selections to the TVC Ohio squad — respectively came away with the offensive and defensive most valuable player awards for 2017. Oliver played shortstop, while Pullins was honored as both a pitcher and a third baseman.

Also serving as a repeat choice for Meigs was senior first baseman Danielle Morris.

The four new all-league honorees for the Lady Marauders were senior outfielder Bre Colburn, senior utility player Morgan Lodwick, junior outfielder/first baseman Peyton Rowe and sophomore centerfielder/catcher Taylor Swartz.

River Valley — which finished sixth out of seven teams with a 3-9 league mark — had three newcomers chosen to the 2017 TVC Ohio squad.

Senior catcher Sydney Little was selected as both a catcher and an outfielder, while sophomores Chloe Gee and Cierra Roberts were chosen as infielders.

Vinton County skipper Jeremy Ward was named the 2017 TVC Ohio Coach of the Year.

Thirteen of the 27 ladies chosen to the 2017 All-TVC Ohio softball team were repeat selections from a year ago.

The TVC Ohio baseball teams will be released in the Friday sports editions of the Gallipolis Daily Tribune, Point Pleasant Register and The Daily Sentinel.
