ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio — Simply put, Tuesday was a good day to be a Lady Marauder.

The Meigs softball team earned a 15-0 mercy rule victory over visiting Nelsonville-York and clinched a share of the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division title, improving to 10-0 in the league.

This is the 15th league title for the MHS softball program, and the first since 2011. Meigs had finished second in the league in four consecutive seasons prior to this year.

“We’ve flirted with the league title the last two years, we had some unfortunate events last year and couldn’t get the split,” said third-year MHS head coach Bryan Swann. “It’s great for these girls, they’ve worked hard, they live softball, and I’m just happy for them. It’s great to see kids go through that and it’s great to be a part of it.”

The Lady Marauders (15-3, 10-0 TVC Ohio) doubled their run output from the previous inning in all four frames, scoring once in the first, twice in the second, four times in the third and eight times in the fourth.

The game-winning run was scored with one out in the bottom of the first inning, when Taylor Swartz scored on a wild pitch.

In the second frame, Devyn Oliver tripled home Bre Colburn and Morgan Lodwick, giving the Lady Marauders a 3-0 advantage.

The bottom of the third frame was highlighted by an inside-the-park home run by Alliyah Pullins, the first of four consecutive hits to lead off the inning.

In the fourth inning, Meigs combined seven singles, one double and one walk to score the final eight runs of the 15-0 victory.

MHS senior Maddison Woodyard earned the win in 4.1 innings in the circle for Meigs, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out six. Lodwick pitched the final .2 innings, walking one batter.

Beyetle suffered the loss in a complete game for Nelsonville-York (4-17, 0-10), striking out one and allowing 15 runs, 14 earned, on 15 hits and a walk.

Colburn led the MHS offense with a 3-for-3 effort, including one double, three runs scored and one run batted in. Pullins was 2-for 3 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and one RBI, Oliver was 2-for-4 with a triple, one run scored and three RBIs, while Danielle Morris was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Rowe and Lodwick both singled twice and scored twice, with Lodwick driving in a game-best four runs. Breanna Zirkle singled once, scored once and drove in a run for the victors, Woodyard added a single and an RBI, while Swartz scored two runs.

Bullock had the Lady Buckeyes’ lone hit.

Meigs left just two runners on base, half as many as NYHS. The Lady Marauders committed one error, while Nelsonville-York had two defensive miscues.

These teams are slated to meet again on May 3, in Athens County. The Lady Marauders return home on Thursday, when they will host Jackson in a non-league tilt.
