BIDWELL, Ohio — So much for gracious hosts.
The River Valley volleyball team dropped three straight games to Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division host Athens, Tuesday night at McAfee Gymnasium.
The Lady Raiders (2-6, 1-2 TVC Ohio) jumped out to a five point lead in the opening game of the evening, but Athens battled back to take an 11-10 lead. The Lady Bulldogs never relinquished their lead and cruised to a 25-18 victory. AHS, never trailed in either of the final two games, taking 25-19 and 25-14 victories.
River Valley was led by senior Courtney Smith with five service points, followed by Angel Toler, Jacey Walter and Jessi Steele with four each. Brianna McGuire marked three points, Alex Truance and Ashley Gilmore both added two, while Emily Adkins contributed one point. Steele finished with a team-high two aces, while Truance, Smith, Adkins and Walter each had one.
Walter led the Silver and Black at the net with five kills, while Truance and Steele each added two. Smith finished with a team-high four assists, while Toler posted a team-best three digs.
RVHS, which visited South Gallia on Wednesday, returns to action on Thursday when Meigs visits Bidwell for a TVC Ohio clash. River Valley will look to avenge this loss on October 6, when the Lady Bulldogs invade Gallia County.
