IRONTON, Ohio — The River Valley Raiders and South Gallia Rebels were among the 14 schools which competed on Saturday in the 64th annual Ironton Invitational — which was held at the Ironton High School Track & Field Complex.

The meet featured primarily Lawrence and Scioto County clubs in Ohio — along with Raceland and Greenup County in Kentucky.

The River Valley boys acquitted themselves well, amassing 77 points to place third.

The Raiders racked up 28 points in the two hurdles races —along with 20 points in distance events and 16-and-a-half in relays.

The Lady Raiders, on the strength of 14 points apiece in throwing and jumping events, secured sixth with 53 points.

South Gallia’s girls gained nine points to take 12th, as junior Jessica Luther had the Lady Rebels’ highest place by finishing fourth in the two-mile (3,200m) run.

The Rebel boys did not score a point at the meet.

River Valley senior Isaiah Beach led the Raider men, capturing the boys 110m high hurdles in 15.7 seconds.

Beach finished fourth in the 300m hurdles, and was tied for fourth in the long jump.

Beach’s teammate, fellow senior J.D. Dummitt, was the runner-up in the high hurdles and took third in the 300 hurdles.

The Raiders also captured the boys 4x800m relay, winning the distance event in eight minutes and 51 seconds.

The quartet included Nathaniel Abbott, Garrett Young, Kyle Coen and Brandon Call.

In the 3,200m run, River Valley picked up 13 points — as Abbott was the race runner-up in 10-and-a-half minutes.

For the Lady Raiders, senior Brianna McGuire in the discus throw and fellow senior Gabriella Adkins in the high jump were runners-up.

Alyssa Lollathon placed in the top four in two events — third in the long jump and fourth in the 300m hurdles.

Kenzie Baker, in 13 minutes and 37 seconds, was third in the two-mile.

Fairland swept the team championships, amounting 125.5 points for the girls and 96.5 points for the boys.

Only the Dragons and South Webster (79 points) were ahead of the Raiders.
