POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — A solid start to the 2017 campaign.

The Point Pleasant boys tennis team put together a near-perfect performance in its 6-1 season-opening victory over visiting Spring Valley on Tuesday night in a non-conference contest at The Courts in Mason County.

The host Black Knights (1-0) won all three doubles matches and also picked up wins in the first three singles matches, but the Timberwolves (0-1) did salvage a little respect after claiming the fourth singles decision in the final match of the evening.

PPHS won all six of their matches by at least three games and also won four of those six contests by at least six games. The Point duo of Dawson Wilson and Andrew McComas also posted the only 8-0 win of the night over Tristen Agee and Brad Arthur in second doubles.

Bryce and Dylan Tayengco netted an 8-2 win over Mitchell Hall and Alex Gibbson in first doubles, while Carson Chambers and Nick Newell scored an 8-5 triumph over Kaleb Hardin and Anthony Jeffery in third doubles.

Bryce Tayengco netted an 8-5 decision over Hall in first singles and Dylan Tayengco posted an 8-2 win over Gibbson in second singles. Wilson also earned an 8-2 win over Agee in third singles to wrap up Point’s victories.

Arthur scored the lone SVHS win with an 8-6 decision over McComas in fourth singles.

Point Pleasant returns to action Thursday when it hosts Lincoln County at 4:30 p.m.
