RAVENSWOOD, W. Va. — Unlike last season’s sectional game, this one wasn’t close for the Wahama White Falcons.
That’s because host Ravenswood — in outscoring Wahama by a combined 63-15 in three quarters — routed the White Falcons 80-28 on Friday night in a Class A, Region IV, Section 1 girls basketball tilt.
The Lady Red Devils dialed up an 18-3 advantage following the opening period, but Wahama had 13 points in the second stanza to trail 35-16 at halftime.
But, the second half was no contest at all.
Ravenswood won the third frame 25-6 and the fourth quarter 20-6 for the 52-point final tally.
Last season, in Class A sectional play, the winless White Falcons nearly knocked off Buffalo —before losing a late lead and eventually the game.
This season’s Wahama club — which defeated both Buffalo and Hannan —closes out the year at 2-21.
The Red Devils dominated in total field goals 32-7, while Wahama held a 5-3 edge in three-pointers.
Claudia Cubides, on seven total field goals and 2-of-6 free throws, led Ravenswood and all scorers with 17 points.
Haylie Reynolds racked up six field goals and a freebie for 15 points, while Ali Westenhaver had six buckets and a foul shot for 13.
Reynolds hit two three-pointers, while Cubides connected for the other.
Hannah Rose, on three three-balls and 3-of-4 free throws, led the White Falcons with 12 points.
Lizzie Mullins and Maddy VanMatre made three free throws apiece, while VanMatre added a two-point goal along with Natalie Rickard.
Rebecca Gerlach and Sarah Huffman had a three-pointer apiece for Wahama.
It was the final game for three Wahama seniors: Gerlach, Lauren Bissell and Nena Hunt.
