Gabby and Francisco Gusman of Racine really enjoyed the water play station at the Kickin’ Summer Bash.
Dan Kirkbride and his son Landon, came from the Dayton area to participate in the kayak races. They won fourth place.
Middleport, Pomeroy, Racine and Syracuse Fire Departments brought in their river rescue equipment for a demonstration.
The carnival rides and games were enjoyed by area children.
Court Street was shut down Friday night for a car show.
POMEROY — Everything from carnival rides to kayak races were included in the Kickin’ Summer Bash held under sunny skies over the weekend.
There was a variety of entertainment in the amphitheater on both Friday and Saturday nights and plenty of daytime activities on both days for adults and children. A water play station was particularly popular with the kids as the Saturday afternoon temperatures soared into the 90s.
On Friday night, Court Street was blocked off for an early evening car show. For the adults Saturday activities centered around river events with kayak and jet ski races, a boaters’ light parade, and a river rescue demonstration by fire department units from Racine, Middleport, Pomeroy, and Syracuse.
A “We’ve Got Talent II” gave local children an opportunity to show what they can do, and a display of photos by amateur photographers was judged with prizes going to the winners after those at the festival voted on the most appealing. Most of the prize money awarded by the festival committee to the contest winners was provided by local businesses.
Numerous artisans displayed their handiwork, and a variety of food vendors served carnival foods.
Winners in the various contests where cash prizes were awarded were as follows:
Kayak race, Danny Grueser, first; Curt Bay. second; Jason Quillen, third, and Dan and Landon Kirkbride fourth.
Jet ski, Gary Freeman first, and Cody Oliver, second.
Photo contest, Jeff Jones, first and third, Candi Owens, second, and Dillon Hayes, honorable mention.
Talent contest, Abigail Houser, first; Isabella Landers, second and Justin Day, third.
Anything that floats, Amy Thompson and friends.
