POMEROY — The creativity and imagination of Meigs County gardeners will be shown in floral designs in two flower shows to be staged in the Thompson-Roush building at next week’s Meigs County Fair.
The first show will take place on Monday andthe second show on Thursday with both featuring flower arrangements on the theme “Scenes at the Meigs County Fair” along with specimen flowers and educational displays in classes for both adult and junior arrangers.
On both days entries will be judged by an accredited judge of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. All entries must be in place by noon on the day of the show since the open judging will begin at 1 p.m. Premiums are $5 for blue ribbons, $4 for red ribbons, and $3 for white ribbons.
There are also premiums for those receiving special awards, best of show, reserve best of show, and creativity along with horticulture sweepstakes in both the senior and junior divisions.
In artistic arrangements there are seven classes for adult arrangers and two classes for junior arrangers in each of the two shows. The class titles and a description of arrangements to fit the Monday show are “Midway” using a black background which is provided for an abstract design; “Clowns,” an interpretive design; “Harness Racing,” showing motion; “Tractor and Truck Pulls,” a stretch design; “Paradise,” synergistic design; “Log Cabin,” design including treasured wood; and “Stage Entertainment,” a transparency design. The junior classes in the first show are “Scouts,” including rocks; and “4-H” featuring green and white. The invitational class is “Style Show,” a line design.
In the second show the classes are “Horse Show,” showing motion; “Cattle Show,” creative; “Lamb Show,” including white; “Rabbit Show,” all foliage; “Swine Show,” including corn; “Goat Show,” construction, and “Poultry Show,” using grain. The invitational class is “Produce of Garden,” a still life. The junior classes are “Kiddie Tractor Pull,” showing motion; and “Pet Show” using a toy animal.
On both days there will be educational displays by the Master Gardeners and the Shade Valley Council of Floral Arts.
There are classes numerous classes for exhibit in the horticultural division.
The flower shows are open for public viewing on all six days of the fair.
