Fifteen sternwheelers and numerous pleasure boats line Pomeroy’s docks as Riverfest gets under way.
POMEROY — The sternwheelers are docked, the carnival equipment is in place, the official opening and fire truck parade took place last night and Riverfest with its call for a “Rally by the River” is well under way.
Last night’s entertainment featured Dale Kulchar and Chad Dodson, and the local “Still Standing” band.
Today’s events kicks off at noon with a program by the Meigs High School band directed by Tony Dingess. The first cruise on the Blennerhasset Sternwheeler will be at 1 p.m. and is designated for seniors and guests with a special fare of $4 with entertainment from storytellers and musicians on board.
Before the festival closes out Saturday night there will have been 10 cruises, including the one where passengers can watch the fireworks from the river on Saturday night, and a wide range of entertainment ranging from rock to contemporary. Talent competitions, special events for the kids including a Saturday night teen dance, a duck derby, a chili cookoff, a balloon launch and the popular men’s sexy legs contest will be held with the finale coming at 9 p.m. with a giant fireworks display.
Vendors with festival foods and craftsmen with creative items are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the parking lot through Saturday
