COLUMBUS — A total of four boys from the Ohio Valley Publishing area were selected to the Associated Press All-Ohio girls basketball teams for the 2008-09 campaign in a four-division process.
None of the four were nominated to the top-three teams, but one earned a special mention honor while three others were named honorable mention.
Southern senior Bryan Harris was the highest honoree from the area, earning special mention honors in Division IV. Harris — who led the Tornadoes in scoring this season — averaged 14.6 points per game while connecting on 50 trifectas during the regular season.
Harris was not the only Southern player selected as well, as junior Sean Coppick was selected honorable mention in D-4. Coppick averaged 10.4 points and shot 53 percent from the field this season.
Both Harris and Coppick were vital parts to Southern’s district championship and 16-7 overall campaign.
Another Division IV honor went to Eastern junior Jake Lynch, who led the Eagles (13-10) in scoring with 13.3 points per game and a 44 percent average from three-point range. Lynch was a major piece to Eastern’s advancement to the district final.
The final local honoree went to Gallia Academy senior Kyle Mitchell, who led the Blue Devils in both scoring (11.5) and rebounding (7.0) while guiding the Devils to a 9-13 overall finish. Mitchell also posted six double-doubles and five games of 20-or-more points this winter.
