MIDDLEPORT — Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency will host a “Cover the Uninsured” enrollment event Thursday at the Help Me Grow office in downtown Middleport.

Thursday, Meigs County Commissioners signed a declaration naming March 22-28 “Cover the Uninsured Week,” in conjunction with the national observance sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Teresa Varian of CAA said the agency will work with the Ohio Benefit Bank and the National “Cover the Uninsured” campaign to inform residents without health insurance coverage about how they might qualify.

Varian said counselors will be on hand all day Thursday to assist those without insurance in applying for health care coverage through Medicaid, the Ohio Children’s Health Insurance Program, Ohio’s Best Rx, and the Golden Buckeye card. The service is free and open to the public. Refreshments will also be served at this first-ever local event.

Information about the national observance is available online, at www.covertheuninsured.org.
