RACINE, Ohio — The Southern softball team held Tri Valley Conference Hocking Division foe Federal Hocking to just two hits over the final four innings en route to a 3-2 victory Wednesday night at Star Mill Park.
The Lady Tornadoes (4-2, 3-2 TVC Hocking) threatened in the first after advancing a runner to third base but failed to push the run across. Federal Hocking (2-6, 2-3) scored a run in the second to take the early lead and added one more in the to of the third. SHS answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2.
Southern’s Baylee Hupp led off with a double in the bottom of the sixth and came around to score to give SHS the 3-2 lead. The Lady Tornadoes’ Jordan Huddleston faced the minimum number of batters over the final four innings to help SHS emerge victorious.
Huddleston pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking none en route to her fourth win of the year.
The Lady Lancers’ Cale was credited with the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six.
The Lady Tornadoes were paced by Huddleston, Jaclyn Mees, and Katelyn Hill with two hits apiece. Maggie Cummins and Baylee Hupp each had one hit for SHS.
Federal Hocking had three players with two hits in the contest.
Southern returns to action Monday at TVC Hocking opponent Trimble at 5 p.m.
