GALLIPOLIS — Shortly after reporting the arrest of a suspect in Friday’s armed robbery of Long John Silvers, the Gallipolis Police Department responded to a knifepoint robbery at Mattress Warehouse, also located in the Silver Bridge Plaza.

This makes the eighth armed robbery in Gallia County since Nov. 14.

GPD Chief Clint Patterson said his agency made an arrest Tuesday evening in the Friday robbery, during which a female suspect thought to be in her early 20s reportedly entered the restaurant, told an employee she had a gun, and demanded the contents of the cash register before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

Although a female suspect has been arrested in connection with that robbery, her name was not released prior to press time due to the GPD’s response and subsequent investigation into the Mattress Warehouse holdup that occurred around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Reports to Gallia County 911 indicated that a male wielding a knife, wearing a hoodie robbed the store and escaped through a back door.

Additional details were not available before press time.

A robbery also occurred at the Chevron station along West Virginia 2 around 9 p.m. Tuesday night. Two gunmen were reportedly involved. This is the second armed robbery to occur in Mason County in the last two weeks.
