Reader’s View: Problem? Traffic doesn’t bear out speed limit

Dear Editor:

In regards to the speed limit in Pomeroy, the town should look at the speed limit in other towns like Vienna, W.Va.

The speed is 40 mph. There is a lot more traffic there but they don’t lower the speed limit.

If Pomeroy was going to limit the number of speed changes, I think 35 mph would have been more appropriate not 25 mph. Look at Mason W.Va. It’s 35 mph, they don’t seem to have any trouble.

Where did common sense go? The traffic flow in Pomeroy does not justify a reduced speed like 25 mph Anyone who drives through Pomeroy in the morning will tell you that this is true. There is not that much traffic, only people going to work.

I know this letter won’t change anything. The Pomeroy Council won’t admit that they made a mistake and fix the problem

I'm sorry but I live in Vienna and the speed limit is 35 mph.

I absolutly agree with both of these comments. People will stop going through town unless they have to go for a specific reason. I think we'll also end up with a lot of aggrevated drivers. That can cause accidents!

They said they wanted to lower the speed limit because of accidents. In my opinion all the lower speed limit does is let people pull out in front of you more often. They realize you're only going 25 so in turn they've got plenty of time to pull out in front of you. I've had that happen to me many times since the speed reduced. And also when you come onto the bridge from the west virginia side, the speed limit is 35, but when you approach from the ohio side the limit is 25. Now which am I legally allowed to go?

The 25MPH speed limit is ridiculous. I have stopped going thru town for any reason, on my way to and from work. Pomeroy needs the traffic for the local business owners to survive. I think that a community, that needs the traffic, would try to make it easier to get thru town in a timely manner, to keep people from deciding to avoid the slow trip thru town and losing their business.
