PORTLAND — This Saturday, Aug. 25, the National Barrel Horse Association of Ohio District Four comes to Portland.

This is the second consecutive year that the Portland Community Center will sponsor this event.

“Dust off that saddle and get that horse ready to work. You would think, how hard could it be, just go out and run around three barrels in a clover leaf pattern,” said Bruce McKelvey of Portland. “Sounds simple enough but can you get that horse to change leads as it comes to round that barrel and get back across the finish line in about fifteen seconds?”

Riders will be coming from Ohio District Four which includes nine counties, Athens, Gallia, Guernsey, Hocking, Meigs, Morgan, Muskingum, Vincent and Washington. These riders will be not only competing for cash prizes but for end of year points for a chance to win a saddle.

Some of the fastest horses in the state to run these patterns will take part in the event. Riders are awesome to watch, added McKelvey

Exhibition Barrels will take place from 2-4 p.m. Show starts at 4:30 p.m.

For more information call McKelvey at (740) 590-9936.
