To Whom It May Concern:
The Meigs local Enrichment Foundation (MLEF) was established to not only help Meigs local with a new track and stadium, but also through some unbelievable “Thank You Jesus” moments, possibly enhance the entire county.
Last year, the community phase, (funded entirely through donations, in-kind work and grant dollars) consisting of 73 acres with a softball/baseball field, shelter house, playground (under construction), batting cages, 3.5 miles of nature trails, flag football fields and other potential projects in the future was launched for everyone in the county to utilize.
During the process of building the softball/baseball field, we (MLEF) called the OHSAA on numerous occasions to make sure the turf infield would be acceptable through regulations to allow girls high school softball to play on the field. The OHSM said the turf surface would be OK to play on, but the foundation would be unable to submit any letter of request on behalf of any school district to allow their softball team to play on the field. At that time, the decision of playing on the field was out of the foundation’s hand.
Last year, the Meigs softball team played on the MLEF field for their 2011 season. The foundation was very happy the field was being used. We were also fortunate to have summer ball teams from all over the county use the field for practice, scrimmages, and also a 12U baseball tournament. The tournament included teams from Nelsonville, Oak Hill, Wellston, Gallipolis and Meigs.
We (MLEF) want everyone to know we had nothing to do with the Meigs softball team not being able to play on the field this year. For questions concerning their not playing on the MLEF turf field for the 2012 season, contact Meigs softball head coach Steve Wood at Meigs Middle School.
We look forward to working with all of Meigs County and their youth to make this park a success and positive experience for everyone!
God Bless,
Board of Directors
