POMEROY — Many of Meigs County’s senior citizens are unaware of the need for long term care, what is available, its cost, and what effect it can have on a family’s assets.
That information and more will be available to them at Choices Expo, sponsored by the Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District, Area Agency on Aging 8 (AAA8) to be held Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marietta Comfort Inn.
According to a survey made by the AAA8 — which includes Meigs and seven other counties — about 12,000 Ohioans turn 60 every year and many of them are without an adequate understanding to make an informed decision on long-term care. Choice Expo is designed to provide adequate information which will help seniors make informed decisions.
The Expo will provide information on healthy lifestyles, long-term care options, caregiver services, details on retirement planning, as well as screenings to determine basic health needs, along with free food and entertainment.
Professionals from a wide range of areas impacting Ohio’s aging population will be on hand to enlighten seniors, making them better able to make wise choices for the future.
The Choices Expo: “Living Healthy, Wealthy and Wise” also provides a variety of resources to help individuals investigate and consider alternatives when making choices for their future.
Included at the Expo will be a medication management clinic. It is suggested those attending bring along a list of their medications, along with any unused or outdated medications which can be disposed of properly.
New to the Expo this year is a “legal physical,” where seniors can meet with professionals who will review important legal documents.
For information about the Expo, seniors may call the Area Agency on Aging 8 at (800) 331-2644, or visit www.areraagency8.org for details.
