So you’re a little concerned about your weight, what with all the “good” stuff you ate over the holidays and the fact that there was no time, or so you thought, to exercise.

Now you’re looking for a good program which will help you get back in shape.

The word from Paulette Harrison and Jeannie Owen who are Zumba teachers is, “Come, join the party!” It starts this week and will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. until summer, or there-abouts, in the gymnasium of the Mulberry Community Center. First-timers are always welcome. And it will help with that weight problem, particularly if you combine it with a diet change.

The admission is non-perishable food items to be donated to the Meigs Cooperative Parish for distribution to families in need of food. And that need is always with us. On the first distribution day of the new year, Jan. 8, in a two-hour span, the Parish assisted 15 households which qualified under the financial guidelines of poverty. Residing in those households were seven senior citizens, 19 other adults and eight children. That was just two hours on one day.

Going to Zumba with its volunteer instructors is really a nice way to contribute to people in need of food. “Kills two birds with one stone,” so to speak.

Since much of our attention to special events this year is around the 150th anniversary of the Civil War Battle at Buffington Island, the only significant battle fought on Ohio ground, displays and other activities will be featured at Meigs County’s three museums.

In the annex of the Meigs County Historical Society’s museum the display will include copies for public viewing of the voting ballots of Meigs County Civil War soldiers when Abraham Lincoln was seeking a second term as president of the United States. Those ballots were filed in the Ohio Board of Elections office and several years ago passed along to the local Board of Elections and eventually to the Museum.

Many other Civil War related things will be included in the exhibit. Currently the Museum has a call out for loans of related materials about the War for this special exhibit. They can be left at the Museum anytime Tuesday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. or for those who would like to have them picked just call 992-3810.

A second display is also being planned — one to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Meigs County Fair. Museum personnel are also interested in having donations for that exhibit.

A little beautification for the new Meigs stadium is being added by area units of the Modern Woodmen of America. They have purchased several Cleveland Pear trees, to be planted on the hill near the press box.

Since I told you last week about the Baby Jesus being stolen from the nativity scene on the Pomeroy parking lot stage just after Christmas, let me say it has not been returned. However, since the Pomeroy Merchants Association was involved in putting in place the figures which are owned by Trinity Church, they felt a responsibility for replacing it. A new Baby Jesus has been located and is being purchased to give to the Church.

By Christmas this year, the Merchants are hoping to have their own nativity scene. Actually they are looking for someone who might have one they no longer use who may be interested in donating it.
