MIDDLEPORT — As a special treat for the First Baptist Church Bible school kids, Fire Chief Jeff Darst and Fireman Cody Davidson brought the Middleport Fire Department ladder truck to the church.

After giving the children a lesson in fire safety and a demonstration on the workings of a fire truck, they offered rides in the ladder bucket truck.

Some accepted, others didn’t, but those who did were taken high enough to reach out and touch the cross on top of the church steeple.

“Jesus to the Rescue” was the theme of the Bible school which kicked off Sunday with a pizza party and concludes today with a pool party at the home of John and Crystal Hood.
