POMEROY — A Back to School Bash block party will be held Saturday on the Pomeroy Parking lot sponsored by the First Southern Baptist Church of Pomeroy.

The fun will begin at 2 p.m. with plenty of activities including a car show, bounce houses, games and corn hole contests.

At 6 p.m. a free evening concert of Christian music will begin in the riverfront amphitheater. Christian singers Jimmy Dooley and 33 Miles will be performing.

Dooley is described as being in a class all his own in gospel music, fusing multiple styles into something different, something better, something extraordinary. He began singing when he about five at his grandfather’s church, preaching when he was 14, and into the music ministry at 17. He co-founded a progressive Southern Gospel mixed trio which recorded two albums and then after a few years, Dooley felt called to part ways with the group to develop his own music ministry.

For Chris Lockwood and Jason Barton of 33Miles, it’s the pursuit of a Christ-focused, heaven-minded life that fuels everything they do, especially their music. Their message stresses the need to make every day count, to live with eternity in mind and to always remember that“our lives are but a vapor in the giant scheme of things.”
