PROCTORVILLE, Ohio — Still unbeaten, despite not having a victory.

The Ohio Valley Christian soccer team rallied back from a 2-1 halftime deficit and earned a draw in the season opener Tuesday night following a 2-2 tie against host Fairland in a non-conference matchup in Lawrence County.

The visiting Defenders (0-0-1) stormed out to an early 1-0 advantage, but a pair of Jake Wireman goals over a three-minute span ultimately allowed the Dragons (0-0-1) to secure a 2-1 cushion at the intermission.

OVCS, however, needed less than 10 minutes after the break to knot things up at two as Phil Hollingshead scored on an indirect goal in the 49th minute. Justin Beaver assisted on the tying goal, which eventually turned out to be the final score of the contest.

Evan Bowman started the scoring in the 10th minute after netting a shot from just outside the center of the 18-yard line, giving the Defenders their only lead of the night at 1-0.

Wireman answered with an unassisted goal — which was also in the 10th minute — to tie things up at one, then Wireman scored on a penalty kick in the 13th minute to give FHS a 2-1 edge at the break.

OVCS claimed a 16-8 edge in shots on goal, with junior keeper Marshall Hood making six saves. Alex Wald stopped 14 shots in net for Fairland. The Defenders also had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Ohio Valley Christian returns to action Thursday when it travels to Belpre for a non-conference matchup.
