CENTENARY, Ohio — Picking up right where it left off.

The Gallia Academy tennis team started the 2014 in style Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over visiting Jackson in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League matchup in Gallia County.

The Blue Devils (1-0, 1-0 SEOAL) — who won the 2013 SEOAL title outright — began defense of their crown on a solid note, as the guests won all 10 sets played in the season opener. JHS (0-1 SEOAL) managed to win at least four games in only one of the 10 sets completed.

Connor Christian claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kirby in first singles and Joseph Sebastian was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Radune in second singles. Pooja Dayal was also a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Garcia in third singles.

Varun Sharma and Ana Wilcoxon claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Conley and Coyan in first doubles, while Miles Cornwell and Tyler Stewart wrapped up the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Crabtree and Evans in second doubles.
