Marauders mash Vinton County, 46-20

ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio — The Meigs Marauder offense kept rolling Friday with a dominating 46-20 win over Vinton County before a large Homecoming crowd Friday night at Holzer Field/Farmers Bank Stadium. Meigs opened up a 46-8 lead in the third period, the Vikings added a couple of scores late with their varsity against the Maroon and Gold junior varsity and freshman.
Once again the Marauders (5-2, 2-0 TVC Ohio) featured their dual quarterbacks and the pair put up similar number. Freshman Cody Bartrum was 10-of-14 for 137 yards, and sophomore Kaileb Sheets completed 5-of-7 passes for 134 yards. For good measure, Bartrum added a pair of touchdown runs and Sheets rushed for 65 yards and added an eight yard reception.
The Marauders received the opening kickoff and just six plays later Bartrum hit a diving Ty Phelps in the corner of the end zone for a score from 19 yards out. The extra points were no good but Meigs held the early 6-0 lead at the 10:09 mark of the period.
After a punt negated a 77-yard punt return for a Meigs score by Michael Davis with a penalty the Marauders took over at the Meigs 36. Eleven plays later Bartrum scored on a keeper from a yard out for his first varsity score to give the Marauders a 12-0 advantage with 3:20 left in the period.
Davis capped off a six play 61 yard drive with a five yard run at the 11 minute mark of the first half to increase the Meigs lead to 18-0.
The Vikings (3-3, 1-1) scored just three plays later when Max Ward pulled in an 82 yard pass from Andy Long; Tim Ousley added the extra points with 9:25 left in the half to cut the Marauder lead to 18-8.
Davis added his second five yard scoring run of the night with 7:33 left in the half capping off a five play 48 yard drive, after the Vinton County kickoff, Davis added the extra points for a 26-8 Marauder lead.
The Marauder defense forced the Vikings to give up the ball on downs with 25 seconds left in the half. Three plays later, Kaileb Sheets hit Ty Phelps over the middle; Phelps spun out of a Vinton tackle at the 40 and took it to the house completing a 54 yard scoring pass with just one second left in the half. Phelps added the kick and the Marauders went into the locker room on to 33-6.
Bartrum scored his second six pointer of the night from nine yards out with 5:44 remaining in the third period for a 39-8 Meigs advantage. Meigs scored their final touchdown of the night when Jordan Hutton scored from a yard out; Phelps added the extra points and Meigs held a 46-8 lead.
With the Marauder going to the junior varsity and freshman VCHS scored two fourth period scores, Ousely scored form six yards out and Laine Sharp added the final score on a 15 yard run to make it 46-20 and close out the scoring.
Sheets led the Marauders with 65 yards in just seven carries; Davis added 55 in 12 tries. Bartrum was 10 of 14 for 137 yards, Sheets completing five of seven for 134. Luke Musser was one of 2 for seven yards. Phelps caught four passes for 108 yards, Davis five for 68, Damon Jones three for 59 and Jordan Hutton two for 30.
Ousley led the Vikings with 40 yards in seven tries, J.T. Hayes added 38 in eight tries and Andy Long 32 in 12 tries. Long was four of 10 for 129 yards, Ward caught three for 121.
Meigs will travel to Wellston next Friday to take on the Golden Rockets, while Vinton County will host unbeaten Athens next week.
