Blue Angels beat Jackson, win SEOAL title outright

CENTENARY, Ohio — For the first time since 2009 the Gallia Academy volleyball team is Southeastern Ohio Athletic League champion.
The Blue Angels defeated arch-rival Jackson in straight games, Thursday night in Gallia County, to seal the fourth SEOAL title in school history.
The Blue Angels (15-5, 7-1 SEOAL) won the opening game by a convincing 25-10 margin, aided my a nine straight service point by Maggie Westfall and six straight by Jenna Meadows. GAHS won the second game 25-17 with nine service point from Kassie Shriver. The Blue Angels sealed the senior night victory with a 25-14 win in the third game, making it a season sweep of Jackson this season.
Maggie Westfall led the victors with 18 points, followed by Kassie Shriver with 10. Jenna Meadows and Haleigh Caldwell each had six points, Chelsy Slone marked four, while Hannah Roach, Micah Curfman and Kathleen Allen each had one point. Caldwell and Westfall each marked a pair of aces, while Shirver, Meadows and Allen each had one.
Westfall also led the GAHS net attack with 17 kills, followed by Curfman with seven and Slone with six. Shriver and Maggie Clagg each had four kills, while Caldwell had two and Roach had one. Shriver had a game-high 24 assists in the triumph.
The GAHS defense was led by Westfall and Clagg with two blocks apiece, while Curfman, Slone and Caldwell each had one. Caldwell and Westfall each marked 13 digs in the win, while Meadows had 11 and Shriver added 10.
Katie Hemsley, Kinnison Donaldson and Emily Landrum each had four service points for the Ironladies, while Brittney Smith had two and Celeste Stiltner marked one.
Gallia Academy honored seniors Maggie Westfall, Haleigh Caldwell, Kassie Shriver, Hannah Roach and Maggie Clagg in their final home game.
The Blue Angels finish the regular season with eight straight victories.
