ASHLAND, Ky. — Reality television often feels less realistic than actual life, but two Kentucky residents are feeling the very real consequences of allegedly partaking in illegal activities on a recent episode of an MTV show.
Cortney J. Howard, 26 of Grayson, Ky., and David Robert Nickell, 33 of Sandy Hook, Ky., were both arrested on drug charges by the Kentucky State Police Friday.
The KSP’s arrests of the pair came after they were featured in an episode of MTV’s reality televsion show True Life. The episode was titled, “I’m Addicted to Pills.”
According to a release by the KSP, the Carter County Attorney’s Office contacted the KSP on Dec. 10 and advised of the airing of the episode.
The Carter County Attorney’s Office advised the episode had aired on Dec. 9 and captured numerous violations of law. The KSP, with the assistance of The Carter County Attorney’s Office, began an investigation into the criminal activity shown on camera.
During the episode, the KSP and Carter County Attorney’s Office assert that individuals engaged in trafficking and possession of controlled substances and also place juveniles in unsafe positions. After investigation, arrest warrants were obtained for Howard and Nickell.
On Dec. 20, Howard was arrested lodged in the Carter County Detention Center and charged with possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a minor and theft by unlawful taking.
The same day, Nickell was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. He was also lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing by Detective Jeff Kelley and additional charges are pending.
