GALLIPOLIS — Select gardens of the historic French City will be on display Saturday in a unique community event, the French Art Colony’s Garden and Tasting Tour.
Seven gardens featured on the tour will showcase regional artists creating original works inspired by the host gardens, as well as tastings from area restaurants.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m., continuing until 2 p.m. From 2-3:30 p.m., the French Art Colony will host a wine and specialty iced tea reception to close the event.
Each of the seven gardens offer unique approaches to gardening and landscaping, as well as outdoor entertaining. The gardens range from classic, historic, modern and whimsical. Five private home gardens, as well as the Thaler Memorial Gardens of the French Art Colony, and the Summer Kitchen Garden of the historic Our House Tavern, will all be showcased in the self-guided walking tour through the historic district of Gallipolis.
Guests visiting the gardens will enjoy tasting of specialties from local restaurants, including: Laurel Valley Creamery, The Tea Caddy, Crossroad Bistro, Lewis Turkey Farm, Courtside Bar and Grill, Tuscany Cuccini, Honey Creek Barbecue, and the Wounded Goose. Tastings are included in the event ticket.
Regional artsists Maxine Kinnaird, Valerie Thomas, Petcharut Channongsuang, Carmen Schultz, Barbara Delligatti and Paul Brown will be creating original works of art inspired by the gardens themselves during the tour. These works will be up for bid in silent auction, which will complete during the reception at the close of the event. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the French Art Colony’s programming.
Tickets may be purchased Friday and Saturday for $20 per person. The ticket includes visits to all the designated garden sites during the event, as well as tastings form each of the restaurants and the wine and specialty iced tea reception at the end of the event. Guests must make ID’s available to enjoy wine during the reception.
