Erwin, Durst win Pull of Champions

ROCKSPRINGS — A Friday morning tradition at the Meigs County Fair, the Kiddie Tractor Pull of Champions pairs the four daily winners in each division against one another to determine the week’s champions.

And has become tradition for the past six years, Trace Erwin, now an upcoming sixth grader has been part of the Pull of Champions. As an 11-year-old, this was Erwin’s last year to compete in the kiddie tractor pull.

Erwin held four consecutive first place titles before finishing second in the 2016 Pull of Champions to one of his friends.

Seeking the first place title in his final year of competition, Erwin told the audience that he does back flips to get ready to pull and demonstrated those flips on the pull track before making one final exhibition pull after completing three “full-pulls” to win the title.

Erwin took first place in the 56-75 pound weight class, completing the three full-pulls. Second place went to Jacob DeWeese with two full-pulls and a final pull of 27 feet, 10 inches. In third place was Garrett Parry with two full-pulls and a final pull of 27 feet, 9 inches. Fourth place went to Marcy Evans with one full-pull and a final pull of 27 feet, five inches.

In the up to 55 pound weight class, Parker Durst took first place with three full-pulls. Brooke Marcinko was second with two full-pulls and a final pull of 27 feet, 11 inches. Third place went to Greyson Duvall with two full-fulls and a final pull of 26 feet. Weston Smith was fourth with a full-pull and a final pull of 25 feet, 11 inches.

A fair tradition for decades, the 2017 Kiddie Tractor Pulls each day and the Pull of Champions were sponsored by Huck and Sherry Wagner, Meigs Fish and Game, Grumpy’s Toy Pulling Team, Fitch Farm, Meigs Independent Press, Cutting Crew, Home National Bank, Hupp Landscaping, the County Garage, Joe Roberts and Montgomery Trailer Sales.

Each day, participants pay a $1 entry fee, receiving their dollar and a ribbon back following the pull thanks to the sponsors.

Winners of the Pull of Champions received trophies nearly as tall as they are, along with cash and other prizes courtesy of the sponsors.
