SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP — Gallia Sheriff Matt Champlin has announced that on Sunday at approximately 11:04 p.m., the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on East Bethel Church Road regarding a suspicious death.

As a result of the initial response of officers to the scene, the sheriff’s office has confirmed the death of one individual at this time. Investigators were on scene and are still conducting an evaluation and investigation of the area. According to Champlin, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist in the investigation and is coordinating efforts with his office in this investigation.

Monday evening, Champlin’s office then released the following statement updating the investigation of the suspicious death on East Bethel Church Road.

“The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding the whereabouts of James Allen ‘Jamie’ Drummond Jr. Mr. Drummond was last seen in the area of the 900 Block of Second Avenue in the City of Gallipolis and was described at that time as wearing a lime green cut off t-shirt and black shorts. Mr. Drummond is approximately 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. Mr. Drummond is further described as having a ‘mow hawk’ style haircut. At this time my office, along with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation, considers Mr. Drummond a person of interest in this investigation and we are encouraging anyone with information regarding Mr. Drummond’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately with details regarding where we can locate him.”

Then, shortly around 9 p.m. on Monday, Champlin’s office announced Drummond had been “taken into custody.”

“We would like to thank everyone for their information,” according to a statement from Champlin’s office.

At press time, Drummond remained only a person of interest in this investigation, as identified by law enforcement. The name of the deceased has not been released.

Champlin’s office said further details will be made available as the investigation continues. This story was still developing at press time.
