RACINE — Despite some wet and windy weather, the annual Racine’s Party in the Park event took place over the weekend without a hitch.
Friday evening saw young people enjoying amusement park rides, the opening of vendors and a beer garden and performances by the Dirt Poor Troubadors, 7 Bridges Road (a tribute band to the Eagles) and Blitzkrieg.
Saturday’s events began with a parade beginning at Southern High School. At 11:45 a.m. citizens and public servants alike gathered for a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Racine American Legion Post 602. At noon, along with vendors and rides opening up, the 11th annual Crusin’ Saturday Night Car Show began.

She loves spending time with her family, traveling, and volunteering. She also enjoys her job at McClure’s in Pomeroy. The candidates are selected by their peers at the end of their junior year at Southern High School. They participate in the 4th of July Parade Festivities (Racine and Middleport Parade) and then are asked to fill out an information form that each judge on the Queen Panel reviews. Among other things, this information form asks various questions about the candidate, her educational goals, as well as her vision for the Village of Racine. These documents are presented to the Queen Panel of Judges prior to an interview. Each candidate is interviewed individually by a panel of four to six judges. Judges include community members, Party-in-the Park Committee members, and the current reigning Queen. Each judge fills out an anonymous score card where the candidate is ranked on her information form and her interview. Scores are then tallied and the the results are sealed in an envelope until the Queen’s crowning the next day. A Queen and a Runner-Up are named at the Party in the Park festivities.
Runner up for the event was Brynn Harris of Racine. Brynn is the daughter of Paul and Kristine Harris. She participates in Southern Volleyball, National Honors Society, Student Council and the Future Farmers of American Organization. Brynn plans on joining the military, going to college and studying nursing. She is also a member of the Sacred Heart Church and enjoys walking dogs at the Dog Shelter.
The other queen candidates were Alison Deem, Jansen Wolfe and Madison Maynard. Also attending the event, and the parade earlier, was the 2014 Queen Bethany Theiss, 2013 Runner Up Jamie O’Brien and 2012 Queen Jennifer McCoy. Awards for Crusin’ Saturday Night Car Show took place at 5 p.m. as well. Look for the results in an upcoming edition. Lastly, the evening ended with three band performances by the Davisson Brothers Band, Outshyne and Chasin’ Crazy.
