Multiple departments respond to fire at 33 Auto

POMEROY —A three alarm fire late Sunday afternoon destroyed an automotive business on State Route 833 outside Pomeroy.

The fire destroyed 33 Auto, which is located near the Enterprise area, spewed thick black smoke that could be seen for miles. Pomeroy Fire Department was joined in mutual aid by Middleport and Rutland Fire Departments with equipment and man power.

The business appeared to be destroyed along with at least two vehicles, it was not known how many vehicles were inside the building when the fire started. It is not known what caused the fire or if there were any injuries.

The fire departments were hampered by run off from the fire hoses with oil and other residue from the automobiles flowing into a creek that runs along side the business. Meigs County Emergency Management Agency was contacted and the firefighters were working to contain the runoff into the evening hours.

Also on the scene was Meigs County EMS, Rutland EMS, Meigs County Sheriff”s Department, Pomeroy Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
