RACINE, Ohio — It’s always good to end the season on a high note.
The Southern volleyball team did just that Thursday night defeating Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division foe Belpre in straight games, in Meigs County.
The Lady Tornadoes (11-10, 10-6 TVC Hocking) won the opening game 25-16, allowing just five Belpre service points. Southern stormed to a 25-5 victory in game two, holding the Lady Golden Eagles without a service point in the process. The Purple and Gold capped off the first varsity win in their new gym with a 25-20 victory in game three.
Marlee Maynard led the hosts with 13 service points, followed by Jordan Huddleston with 10 and Hannah Hill with seven. Ali Deem had five points, Celestia Hendrix marked four, while Madison Maynard and Darien Diddle each had three. Hudleston had a team high three aces, followed by Jenkins and Hendrix with one apiece.
Hendrix had 11 kills to pace Southern, while Huddleston, Madison Maynard and Jansen Wolfe each had four kills. Diddle added three kills, while Deem marked one. Deem led the way with 16 digs, while Jenkins had a team-high 13 assists. Wolfe and Diddle each marked two blocks in the game, while Madison Maynard had one.
Kaitlyn Hughes led the Lady Golden Eagles with eight points, followed by Olivia Pratt and Loren Elliott. Brianna Owen and Maddie Kapple each had one point to round out the Belpre scoring.
Southern also defeated BHS in Belpre on September 19.
The Lady Tornadoes have stepped up their game at the right time of year, winning 5-of-6 to end the season.
Prior to Thursday night’s contest Southern honored seniors Celestia Hendrix, Katie Jenkins, Darien Diddle, Baylee Hupp and Jordan Huddleston. This marks the final home game in their SHS volleyball careers.
